The second drawing has figure-ground, some similarity and proximity. For more similarity you could add a circle in the center of the M & H to compare the rectangles to and for proximity you could have spaced the longer rectangles farther n leave the smaller n skewed rectangles close to show distance between the objects 2nd Place
Think I did my critique wrong.. Top to bottom: 2nd, 1st, 3rd Top is I think an MH also but with the triangle it looks like an MA, there is closure in this piece becuase the triangle has a gap n my mund wants to make the triangle whole. Middle is 1st (refer to my first comment) Bottom is creative n reminds me of heiroglyphics. The 2 triangles are clearly an M but the long rectangles beneath, im not sure if they're supposed to be an H. I would actually like to talk to you about your pieces in person, hopefully tomorrow :)

your second piece is good but to get similarity you could probably leave a few rectangles with a white empty space inside.
